LOWE
Everything about this contemporary spot with a sleek open kitchen, pared-down aesthetic and a central wooden fire intrinsic to their style of cooking is absolutely spot on. A quick glance at the menu will do a disservice to what lies within. With amazingly creative concoctions, the dishes here blend lots of flavours and genres to produce excellent plates that you’ll want to keep coming back for.
Keep it simple with a burger or shake things up with Omani prawns or whipped aubergine. Many would argue that breakfast is its biggest draw with bold flavours showing the team's Australian roots. The menu boasts an interesting take on morning favourites including smashed avocado and cured salmon flatbread with kohlrabi and coriander. The signature LOWE Breakfast is another highlight. It combines fresh vegetables, chickpeas, halloumi cheese, a boiled egg and olives, accompanied by fluffy flatbread for a distinctly Middle Eastern flavour. The waffles are a real treat, and their flat white will give you the perfect caffeine hit.
Sustainability on the menu at LOWE
Although it is located in the residential neighbourhood of Al Barari, LOWE is worth traveling to try. It appears understated, but is filled with worthy ambition. That is why it was awarded not just a spot on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants list, but a further prize for being the most sustainable restaurant in the region as well as a Michelin green star. Local ingredients, a community spirit and zero-tolerance for waste are the pillars this place is built on, and it shows. Chef Kate Christou, who runs LOWE alongside Jesse Blake, even devised zero-waste tasting menus using leftovers, with spare sourdough forming the base of their bestselling burnt sourdough ice-cream.
