Grab a bite at these beachside cafes

Burger fans have been lining up at this Kite Beach hotspot ever since it brought the food-truck concept to Dubai. Since then, it has evolved into a pop-up, air-conditioned terrace. The menu keeps it simple with classic wagyu and chicken sliders, perfectly-cooked fries, fresh drinks including pink lemonade and delicious ice-cream. It's all very, very good but our favourite is the creamy lotus soft serve.

An in-house concept at Surf House Dubai, Single Fin Cafe is a local favourite for beachside bites – either before or after a refreshing session on the waves. Known for its quality food and brews, the community eatery serves up healthy dishes for all, with a focus on natural ingredients. Whether or not you are a surfer, this welcoming hub on Jumeirah Beach Road is worth a visit for its signature coffee blends, iced teas and homemade desserts. While generous breakfasts are the main attraction, ranging from porridge and pancake specialities to eggs of all kinds and fruit bowls, there's no shortage of delicious lunch and dinner options too.

A short stroll away from Kite Beach is Al Ijaza, a decades-old cafeteria known to attract tourists and locals alike. It's the perfect place to grab a quick, affordable bite including the much-loved shawarmas and inventive sandwiches. Try the Hassan Mathar, a toasted cheese and garlic chicken wrap, while sipping on any of the amusingly-named juice combos: Dubai Metro, Computer or Abood.

Start mornings right with Eggspectation in The Beach at JBR, with breakfast classics such as poached eggs, eggs Benedict and light omelettes. There are plenty of other all-day treats on the menu too, including juicy burgers, inventive pastas and tasty flatbreads. For those less peckish, sip on tropical fruit smoothies and healthy green juices, or try the Banana Java drink for a fruity espresso kick.

Family favourite Maison Mathis delighted its legions of fans when it opened a new beachside branch. The welcoming spot set up shop in voco Dubai The Palm hotel, catering to diners of all ages with views of the West Beach shores. While the eatery may be Belgian-inspired, the menu is geared towards all-day dining with international dishes served up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
